The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources successfully organized a virtual seminar on “The Algorithmic Harvest: Responsible AI in Agricultural and Life Science Innovation” on July 30, 2026. The seminar was delivered by Dr. Minyechil Alehegn Tefera, a Postdoctoral Researcher at the National Taipei University of Technology, Taiwan, who presented practical insights into the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) in agriculture, life sciences, and academic research. The presentation covered AI applications in scientific writing, research design, data analysis, publication, research integrity, ethical AI use, and practical demonstrations of widely used AI tools.
The virtual training attracted more than 48 participants, including the University’s Academic Affairs Vice President, the Vice President for Research and Community Service, academic staff, researchers, and postgraduate students. The interactive discussion that followed reflected participants’ strong interest in the opportunities and challenges of AI in higher education. Participants raised important concerns regarding the ethical use of AI in research, affordability and accessibility of AI tools, the potential impact of AI on employment, threats to critical thinking, plagiarism and academic integrity, and the responsible integration of AI into teaching, learning, and research.

In his closing remarks, the Vice President for Research and Community Service emphasised the growing importance of understanding and responsibly utilising AI in academia. He encouraged staff and researchers to embrace AI as a tool for innovation while maintaining ethical standards and academic integrity. He also expressed his appreciation to the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources for organising the timely seminar and thanked Dr. Minyechil Alehegn  for sharing his expertise and practical experience with the university community.
